How to Get Started With a Calligrapher

How to Get Started With a Calligrapher

Perhaps some would say this doesn’t warrant a full blog post, and honestly the answer could be stated in just a few words, but I’d rather over-communicate than not communicate at all – and I’d also like to ease any anxiety or questions about the unknown of how to get started with a calligrapher. Because, let’s face it, ordering calligraphy really isn’t a common, everyday task. It’s something that is done on occasion, which means no one is truly well-versed in it (unless, perhaps, you’re a wedding planner or someone who coordinates events for others).

Here’s the short answer: if you are looking to order custom calligraphy, just reach out! This can be done on my website through one of my contact forms. I’ll get in touch with you within 48 hours with an estimate and more information regarding the project. It’s as simple as that! And the best part is – there are truly no strings attached. If you are just looking for more information or are curious, there is nothing to fear about reaching out or just asking a question. I actually LOVE to receive questions and to give recommendations in any way that I can!

The long answer: the rest of this blog post will focus on my process and what will happen before, during, and after you reach out to me.

1. Reach Out

Head to my website and fill out one of my contact forms to get started! This gives me all the information I need to best serve you in the next step. It helps if you can be as specific as possible, including project dimensions, paper and ink color, and any else that may be relevant, such as embellishments or style preferences. I am happy to guide you through all of this as well, but if you know beforehand, please do tell me!

If the inquiry warrants it, we’ll set up a time to chat together so I can hear your vision & get every detail right. Sometimes everything is evident from the form, and I don’t need any clarification. In these cases, you will receive an email estimate right away, and from there you can decide if you’d like to move forward!

Once you decide to work with me, it’s time for the design process to start! I’ll always send you a draft for approval, particularly if it’s a quote, sign, or other piece. Envelopes are more straightforward, but if you are undecided on a layout, I’m happy to send you samples. The timeline for this step always varies, but at a minimum will take 2 weeks. Once it’s complete, we’ll arrange for pickup, delivery, or shipment by mail!
